Adding a new user and sending a welcome email just got simpler. Bizstim can now create the username and password for you, and a long-standing problem with welcome emails has been fixed.
Automatic Username And Password
On any Add page, leave the username, password, and confirm password fields blank. If Send Welcome Email is checked, the status is set to Active, and an email address was entered, Bizstim generates a username and password and sends them in the welcome email. If you would rather choose the credentials yourself, fill the three fields in as you always have and your values are used exactly as entered. Nothing changes for you in that case.
The generated username follows the same pattern Bizstim has always used: first initial plus last name, lowercase, letters and numbers only. If no name is available, the part of the email address before the @ symbol is used instead. Duplicates get a number added automatically.
All Three Fields, Or None
The username, password, and confirm password fields are now all-or-nothing. Filling in one or two of them stops the form and shows this message: "Provide the username, password, and confirm password together, or leave all three blank." This closes an old gap where a partly filled form could save an unusable password, or a confirm-password entry on its own could quietly overwrite a working password.
No More "Password Is Encrypted" Emails
Welcome emails used to fall back to the text *** Password is encrypted *** where the password should have been, because saved passwords cannot be read back. That placeholder has been removed. If a real password is not available to send, the email is not sent at all and you get a message on screen instead. The same applies to the Send Welcome Message button on an existing user and to sending in bulk, so a user will never again receive a welcome email with no usable password in it.
If There Is No Email Address
No email address means no credentials are generated. The user is still added normally, and the message on screen tells you an email address was not provided.
This applies to every Add page that offers the welcome email option, on both the administrator and staff sides. Existing users, existing passwords, and the Edit pages are unaffected.
