What the Bizstim API Can Do for Your Business, Explained Without the Jargon

bizstim api

Bizstim now has a brand new API. If that sentence made your eyes glaze over, this article is for you.

You do not need to know what an API is to benefit from one, and you do not need to write a single line of code. What you need is a clear picture of what it makes possible, so you can decide whether it is worth putting to work in your business. Here is that picture, in plain English.

What an API Actually Is

Think of your Bizstim account as a well-run office. Your clients, your team, your schedule and your payments all live inside it, and you and your staff walk in through the front door every day: the screens you log in to.

An API is a second door, built for software instead of people. Another program, such as your website, your spreadsheet or a tool you already pay for, can knock on that door and ask Bizstim for something specific: "list this week's sessions", "add this new client", "record this payment". Bizstim checks the program's key, answers the request, and nothing else in your account is touched.

You hand out the keys. You create them yourself on the API Settings page in your account settings. Your main key opens every part of the account. You can also make extra keys that reach only the parts you choose, and switch off any key whenever you like. Your data stays in Bizstim the whole time. The API simply lets your other tools work with it, so nobody has to copy information from one screen to another by hand.

Five Things You Could Do with It

1. Turn your own website form into a new client. Maybe you already have a website you love, with its own contact or sign-up form. With the API, every person who fills in that form can appear in Bizstim as a new prospect, ready for your team to follow up, without anyone retyping a name or an e-mail address.

2. Get your sessions and payments into your own spreadsheet. If you or your accountant like to work in a spreadsheet, the API can pull your sessions and the payments you have received straight out of Bizstim and drop them in, on whatever schedule suits you. No more exporting, copying and pasting at the end of every week.

3. Move over from your old system without retyping everything. Switching software is hard when years of records are stuck in the old one. The API can bring your clients, your team, your services and your upcoming sessions into Bizstim in one organized move. Planning a big move? Let us know before you start and we will make sure it runs smoothly.

4. Put your team's schedule on your own screen. Want today's sessions for each member of your team on a display in your office, or on a page of your staff intranet? The API can fetch the schedule for any practitioner and any range of dates, so the screen stays current without anyone updating it.

5. Give a contractor a key that only opens what they need. Hiring a web developer, a bookkeeper or a data specialist for a project? Make them their own key that reaches only the parts of your account their job requires, for example sessions and nothing else. When the project ends, delete the key and their access ends with it. Your main key, and everything else in your account, stays private.

These are only starting points. Clients, practitioners, staff, agents, locations, services, sessions, payments and skills can all be read and updated through the API, and discounts, packages and login records can be read. If information lives in those parts of Bizstim, there is a good chance another tool you use can work with it.

You Do Not Have to Write the Code

Every one of the ideas above needs a small piece of software to connect the two sides. That is where most business owners stop. They see the potential, then picture themselves learning to program, and the idea goes back on the shelf. There are two easier ways forward.

Work with your own developer. If you have a web developer or an IT person, send them to the Bizstim API Reference. It explains every part of the account the API can reach, field by field, with examples they can copy. A capable developer will know exactly what to do with it.

Let us build it for you. Don't have a developer, or would rather not manage one? We can build the connection for you. Book a free call, tell us what you want your tools to do together, and we will scope the job and send you an estimate before any work starts. You will know exactly what you are getting, and what it costs, before you commit to anything. The people who build Bizstim are the people who build your connection, so it is done right the first time.

Which Plan Includes It

API access is part of the Enterprise plan, alongside the records manager, advanced HR and the products manager. If you are on another plan and one of the ideas above would save your team real time every week, that time alone can pay for the upgrade. Compare the plans to see everything Enterprise includes.

Not sure if the API is right for you? Book a free call and describe the task you wish happened by itself. We will tell you honestly whether the API is the answer, and if it is, how to get there.

Help us share this article with others. We can't do it without you.
